The agreement now gives the separate carriers access to their 3G footprints across the city, which for Sprint is centered in major metropolitan areas and for Alltel in its Tier II and Tier III markets.
In other mobile news, Nokia announced it has won an infrastructure contract with MTPCS for a GSM/GPRS/EDGE network in Montana. Nokia will supply not only the radio access gear but its new 3GPP Release 4 mobile switching center architecture, making the new network Nokia from core to base station.
MTPCS, which runs its service under the name Chinook Wireless, is replacing its CDMA network with the new infrastructure, one of the first cases of a CDMA operator switching to GSM in the U.S.
