Acquired in February, GoRemote provisions DSL and cable broadband lines in the U.S. and Canada, targeting those pipes at telecommuters. iPass is using that access infrastructure to bulk up its already sizable remote access options, combining the raw connection with its Home Office solution. The solution uses a pre-configured Wi-Fi router sharing a common service set identifier (SSID) with the user’s corporate network, allowing a home worker to log onto the home network much like he or she would do at work.
The home solution complements iPass’ growing access platform, which includes 62,000 global hotspots and dial-up services in 160 countries. iPass has also been experimenting with 3G and cellular data services. It hooked into either Sprint or Verizon Wireless’ EV-DO service last year, and has begun slowly expanding into other mobile networks. Last month it gained GPRS access in Singapore.
