Under the agreement, Nokia and Andrew will offer Andrew’s serving mobile location center (SMLC) gear to carriers with deployed Nokia base station subsystem (BSS) infrastructure. The SMLC architecture process location-related data gleaned from the network to determine the approximate location of any GSM transmitting device. The system has been optimized for public safety and emergency caller purposes, but carriers are also deploying the solution to support location-dependent applications.

Andrew will also license some technology from Nokia in order to incorporate its SMLC architecture into Nokia BSS gear.
