Globalcomm: Alvarion adds triple play to BreezeAccess
CHICAGO—Alvarion released a new version of its proprietary broadband wireless base station BreezeAccess VL, which integrates prioritization technology capable of supporting VoIP.

The system uses multimedia access prioritization (MAP) technology to give voice and video packets top priority over the network, therefore allowing the network to support toll-quality and voice and a full complement of triple play services, Alvarion vice president of marketing Carlton O’Neal said.
While MAP technologies have been introduced in WiMAX products to support VoIP, O’Neal said Alvarion decided to incorporate it into its BreezeAccess line in order to give its customer using 5 GHz unlicensed spectrum a triple-play alternative. The WiMAX Forum has named 5 GHz as a candidate for WiMAX certification, but the profile isn’t scheduled for lab testing until next year.
