Harris, NEC settle litigation

Harris Corp. and NEC have dropped their patent infringement lawsuits against one another, reaching a settlement in which each company will license their respective technologies to one another.

NEC started the bout of litigation last September, filing suit against Harris in a California U.S. District Court, claiming that Harris had infringed on NEC’s digital microwave radio patents in developing its broadband wireless products. Harris responded by filing its own lawsuit against NEC in December in a Texas U.S. District Court, claiming that NEC infringed on PBX patents Harris had filed when it was still in the telecom switch business.

But this week, the two companies hashed out an agreement in which either company will licenses the others technology, and Harris agreed to buy some of NEC’s own PBX patents for an undisclosed amount.
