Mastering the QoS quest
Moving forward into 2.5G and 3G territory, operators need a way to look into their networks and evaluate the performance and quality of service. Only with this view will they be able to increase their return on investment. Bill Rozier believes his company has the tools to do this. NetTest’s vice president of worldwide marketing believes these products will increase revenue generation as well as help operators plan and develop next-generation services.

Originally introduced at Wireless 2002, NetTest added the following products to its test and measurement portfolio:
· The masterQUEST Convergence Probe provides end-to-end visibility of services using Frame Relay, IP and ATM protocols with traditional SS7 signaling links. The scalable solution can be deployed in a single site configuration or as part of a network-wide surveillance system with thousands of probes and tens of thousands of monitored links.
· The masterQUEST UMTS surveillance application accelerates UMTS network rollout, ensures UMTS networks provide quality of service and enables UMTS carriers to reduce operating costs. Combined with the convergence probe, the surveillance applications extend the masterQUEST platform functionality to provide simultaneous support for 2G, 2.5G and 3G networks.
· The masterQUEST Data Warehouse is a platform solution designed to support a series of NetTest applications. Using masterQUEST Data Warehouse, operator departments responsible for interconnect, customer care, sales and marketing can evaluate the key data required to make business decisions that lower costs and increase revenues. The data warehouse platform will evolve to accommodate future applications for GPRS and 3G networks.
· COMPASS GSM & GPRS is a tool that optimizes performance and minimizes network downtime. The new releases will allow operators to benchmark information coming from drive tests with a protocol view of the network and get deeper analysis of network behavior through Gb and Abis correlation.
· COMPASS UMTS provides operators with a statistical and operational view of their UMTS networks as well as the warranty of a successful deployment. In order to reduce time to market, COMPASS UMTS provides a real-life analysis of real calls on a live network helping operators define their priorities in terms of network troubleshooting, interoperability and optimization.
