Telcordia will integrate NorBelle's Cearch platform with its IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) portfolio, adding enhanced handset tracking features beyond those provided by ordinary GPS, the companies said. NorBelle has developed a series of sophisticated algorithms that allows one handset in motion to dynamically track another handset in motion in real-time with a precision of up to 1 meter. The technology measures both the tracked and the tracking device in relation to one another, enabling more intuitive locator applications than the standard map and marker.
Telcordia said it plans to sell the feature set to its customers for a variety of applications including asset tracking, managing small business field forces and family tracking, which has garnered much attention since Disney Mobile and Sprint announced plans for child-locator services.
