Initiated in mid-2004 and employing Qualcomm's Mobile Station Modem MSM6250 chipset and software solution, the tests included network performance, standby-time and talk-time assessments.
"Qualcomm's solution will allow global mobile users to roam onto our FOMA network and take advantage of the advanced services we offer," said Dr. Kazuhiko Kushima, vice president of the Global Network Development Department at NTT DoCoMo, in a statement. "We expect that the global expansion of Qualcomm's product will enable us to create cost-effective handsets which have integrated advanced multimedia and higher data rate capabilities, while reducing development costs and time-to-market."
Last week, DoCoMo also announced the successful completion of FOMA interoperability tests involving Ericsson Mobile Platforms' U100 W-CDMA/GPRS platform.
