Motricity's Fuel content delivery platform links into carrier content portals on three continents. It names Sprint, Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Alltel and Virgin Mobile as customers in the U.S., but also powers content management solutions for China Unicom and O2. Recently, Motricity has been extending Fuel's capabilities directly to content providers and online retailers, expanding its partner base to Amazon.com, Ask.com, BET and Sony Ericsson.
The $40 million is Motricity's third announced financing round, led by Advanced Equities. Last July it closed a $30 million funding also led by Advanced Equities and 10 months earlier it announced a $27 million infusion from a group of investors including Technology Crossover Ventures and Intel Capital. In those 20 months Motricity's business has boomed, company officials said, expanding its offices into Europe and Asia and its staff to 300 employees.
