Motorola’s Geoffrey Frost dies

Motorola announced today that Geoffrey Frost, the company’s 55-year-old chief marketing officer, died suddenly this morning. The cause of death was not provided.

Frost joined Motorola in 1999 and was widely credited with the ongoing renewal of Motorola’s 77-year-old brand, particularly in the wireless handset sector. A marketing disciple of Nike founder Phil Knight, Frost was confident that through innovative design and unique marketing, Motorola’s brand image could be on par with the likes of Nike and Apple.

“Geoffrey was an innovative and charismatic leader, and Motorolans around the world came to rely on him as both a trusted colleague and a friend,” said Motorola chairman and CEO Ed Zander in a statement. “Motorola and the marketing community have lost a creative genius.”
