The Devicescape Universal Wireless Platform encompasses a complete Linux-based software development system designed to aid manufacturers developing feature-rich mobile devices. The platform supports the IEEE's 802.11 wireless LAN protocol and complies with Wi-Fi Alliance WPA2 and WMM specifications in addition to integrating with WLAN chipsets from Atheros, Broadcom and Conexant.
"We've seen tremendous demand out of both consumer electronics companies and networking companies for wireless platform development," said Devicescape CEO David Fraser. "Our product is really about a build versus buy decision--it enables manufacturers to work on innovation rather than integration."
Formerly known as Instant802 Networks, Brisbane, Calif.-based Devicescape was founded in 2001. In late January, the company closed $12.2 million in Series B financing, with Enterprise Partners Venture Capital and JAFCO Ventures joining Devicescape's original investors Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, August Capital and Applied Materials Ventures, all of which also participated in the round.
