Cingular will adopt Motricity's Fuel Mobile Content Distribution Platform in an effort to cut costs and increase data revenues. "Motricity has a proven track record in delivering end-to-end content delivery solutions, and we are confident they will deliver this same level of excellence to Cingular's next-generation data platform," said Jim Ryan, Cingular's vice president of data services, in a statement.
According to Cingular, its data revenues have experienced double-digit growth each month over the past year, and on Dec. 25 the carrier celebrated its first "million dollar download day."
Also on Monday, Motricity announced it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support smartphones based on the Symbian OS standard. The company said it will extend its mobile content solutions to the Symbian OS ecosystem, and will invest in features and enhancements specifically for the Symbian platform.
Motricity additionally launched SymbianGear.com, a Web site spotlighting handheld applications and content for Symbian devices, and released a Symbian version of its eReader eBook client software.
