WCA: MVS deploys NextNet in Mexico

SAN JOSE, CALIF.--MVS Net, the Mexican communications company that is part of a family-owned empire with reach into broadcasting and Internet content, is running VoIP over non-line of sight broadband wireless access systems from NextNet Wireless, a U.S. vendor that is part of the family-owned empire of Craig McCaw.

The announcement was made at the WCA International Symposium and Business Expo here. The carrier is delivering broadband data and VoIP bundled services. Average call volume so far is 1.6 million calls per month, generating over 3.7 million VoIP minutes per month across Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Toluca and Mexicali, the companies said.

MVS Net uses a carriers' carrier business model that supports multiple virtual network operators using a common NLOS infrastructure provided by NextNet. MVS Net's ISP partners Avantel (a joint venture of MCI), Alestra (a joint venture of AT&T), and its own ISP Ego, launched bundled data and VoIP in early 2005.
