Idetic officials said the launch demonstrates the company’s commitment to making MobiTV an international brand with popularity outside of the niche TV-on-the-go market in the U.S. MobiTV currently runs over Sprint’s Vision and the data networks of several regional carriers, as well as on the handsets of Cingular customers still using AT&T Wireless’s mMode.

“Orange’s launch of MobiTV is more than a compelling 3G proposition,” said Idetic business development vice president Ray DeRenzo in a statement. “It is a validation that mobile television service offers value to consumers on a worldwide basis.”

MobiTV will be offering to the U.K. much of the same fare it offers to carriers in the U.S., with a slight European bent. Its initial line-up will include ITN News, CNN International, Cartoon Network, Toon World, Extreme Sports Mobile, Comedy Time and Fashion TV.
