VRLA BATTERY The Dynacel/DGX modular VRLA battery from Yuasa-Exide is designed for use in long-duration, high-cycle applications. Providing three times more cycles than other VRLA batteries, the Dynacel/DGX features a tubular plate instead of the flat plate common in other batteries. In this construction, vertical lead spines are surrounded by a lead tube, which is held in place by a fiberglass wrap. This design presents 60% more surface area than does a similar flat plate, resulting in better use of the paste material. It also completely exposes each spine to the battery paste, resulting in longer discharge at a higher voltage and more capacity without an increase in size.

ANTENNA CONNECTORS Maxrad's FME universal connectors reduce the number of antenna mounts needed to install an antenna. Faster antenna installations result because the diameter of an FME connector is only slightly greater than the cable it is attached to. The feature lets an installer pull the antenna mount's cable and factory-installed connector through a vehicle. When the cable reaches the phone, the installer attaches the appropriate threaded adapter, which connects with the radio's antenna port, the threaded FME universal connector. The connector is available with all Maxrad mobile antenna mounts and also is offered with the company's BMMG mini-magnetic mount series antennas.

SWITCH Digital Transmission Systems' mini-cross-connect switch, MicroFlex, is a compact, digital cross-connect switch that allows you to establish more efficient cellular and PCS transmission networks. With MicroFlex, you can consolidate and remotely balance traffic loads at unstaffed points of the network, which provides flexibility in application and control of network facilities. You also can use MicroFlex in hubbing efforts to reduce T1 costs. A cross-connect switch is necessary for switching voice and data traffic in networks where transmission facilities are a major cost of operation. One way to lower these costs is by hubbing new cell sites together in order to use transmission facilities. MicroFlex provides the function with less rack space.

A fully populated SPC can support more than 1,000 full duplex service circuits, reducing hardware costs. The SPC is hot swappable, enabling cards to be added or removed without taking the switch out of service, and it is fully managed using the SNMP protocol. The SPC is integrated with Summa Four's intelligent call services, a set of tools that reduces application development time and simplifies network management. Multiple tone plans are supported, enabling applications to specify international variants on a call-by-call basis. Also, you have direct access to modify parameters and protocols to quickly adapt to varying network requirements.

VOICE MAILBOX US West and Lucent Technologies announce a consolidated wireline and wireless voice mailbox, called US West's Access2 Voice Messaging Link. The product gives US West customers access to messages whether in the office, on the road or at home. Customers remember one retrieval number and one password to access their PCS and home or office voice messages. The service is being offered through US West's launch of Access2 advanced PCS, combining two separate voice-messaging networks into one.
Access2 Voice Messaging Link also provides message notification on customer devices. For example, when a call is left in the user's Access2 Voice Messaging Link voice mailbox, the user will be notified immediately at home via a stutter tone and on the PCS handset via a short-message service. Pager notification also is available. Lucent Technologies offers the consolidated mailbox technology to service providers who offer both wireline and wireless voice mailboxes.
