A new name for a new format. PCIA GlobalXChange, formerly the Personal Communications Showcase, will offer a forum to learn and explore new business markets and product solutions in wireless Internet, enhanced voice, wireless portals, wireless e-commerce, advanced data, 3G and content. From Sept. 25 to 29, Chicago’s McCormick Place will be the setting for more than 600 manufacturers/suppliers showcasing their innovations. If you’re included in the 18,000 executives planning to attend, Wireless Review has put together the information you need to get a head start on your planning.

Planning for the Week
Along with the many hours you can spend on the show-room floor, there will be much more to take in, including seminars, co-located wireless events, general sessions/keynotes and the PCIA gala.

PCIA has lined up more than 50 conference sessions divided into eight different tracks of programming such as wireless Web, content, wireless voice, interactive messaging and wireless data, 3G, emerging technologies, fixed broadband, and international market perspectives. To address and discuss legislative and technical issues, three special sessions will be held with speakers from the FCC and wireless policy and technical experts. The focus will be on wireless Internet security, the evolving ultra-wideband and software-defined radio category and infrastructure build-out. There will be two workshops: WAP Technology

& Development Symposium, which is a 2-day official event of the WAP Forum presented by Zsigo Wireless Training; and Winning in Wireless: Chasm Strategies for Market Success, which is co-produced by the Chasm Group.

This year’s conference also will feature informational wireless events co-located with PCIA GlobalXChange. The Wireless Communications & Networking Conference, put on by the IEEE Communications Society, will serve as a global forum for knowledge sharing for engineers developing and deploying leading-edge wireless technology. Penton’s Wireless: Portable Engineering Technology Conference will provide continuing-education workshops and technical presentations that are geared towards the needs of designers of wireless and portable electronics systems. Also, Wireless Institute of Technology’s 2000 CDMA Technology Conference will be held in conjunction with the show at the Hilton Hotel at Lisle/Naperville. For information, call 210-344-6660.

In addition to the seminars and workshops, attendees can join the two keynotes, “Globalization of the Wireless Web” on Wednesday and “The Future of the Wireless World” on Thursday. Christopher Galvin, Motorola chairman & CEO, will deliver a keynote address on Thursday. Other featured speakers include Hand-spring’s Jeff Hawkins, Sun Microsystems’ John McFarlane, Ticketmaster Online-CitySearch’s John Pleasants, Intel’s Ronald Smith, OracleMobile’s Denise Lahey, Sonera’s Kaj-Erik Relander and InfoSpace’s Arun Sarin.

After a packed-full day on the show floor and attending seminars and workshops, you can prepare yourself for an evening of fun and laughter with comedian Sinbad. Plus you’ll enjoy cocktails and a 3-course dinner. The PCIA Gala will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Tickets cost $165 each or $1,150 per table of 10. All proceeds will go toward the PCIA Foundation and its programs.
