The latest addition to the EnerSys line of Phoenix batteries
increases performance up to 8% at the 15-minute rate over batteries
with the same footprint. The PHX12-475 is a valve-regulated lead-tin
battery designed for high-rate applications. It uses absorbent
glass-mat technology to retain acid between plates and enhance battery
cyclability during normal UPS operation. It incorporates several
enhancements such as recessed terminals that provide lower profile and
better connection and brass inserts that increase conductivity and
power output, but the 12V, 475-WPC-rated battery retains the same
footprint as previous models. The battery needs no venting under normal
operating conditions, and it can be installed close to sensitive
electronics.

Multi-Source Generator
A new multi-source generator from IFR Systems generates two Bluetooth
modulated carriers and one GSM carrier within one instrument. For
critical Bluetooth interoperability testing, the 2026B with Bluetooth
Option 117 is more cost effective than buying two or three separate
signal sources. The 2026B, a 10kHz-to-2.51GHz source, can be fitted
with either two or three signal sources that can be combined onto a
common output or routed to individual outputs. Each of the signal
sources can be frequency- and amplitude-coupled so that common
measurements can be performed more quickly and accurately. The new
option enables the user to perform tests on Bluetooth and GSM receivers
and is particularly useful for performing blocking tests. Option 117
can accept external data sources for Bluetooth and GSM generators or
use internal pseudo random binary sequence generators.

CDMA Base Station
The Flexent CDMA distributed base station from Lucent Technologies
provides greater capacity, modular expansion and a clear path to
next-generation networks. This high-powered multi-carrier base station
has an average RF transmit power of 16W with a peak power of 24W. The
flexible mounting options (pole, roof, floor or wall) and modular
design make installation quick and easy. The base station reduces
equipment costs by using cross-carrier antenna sharing to cut the
antenna count in half. The 3G-ready system delivers solid
infrastructure protection by allowing reuse of customers’
existing baseband units and by providing backward compatibility with 2G
technology.

Antennas
In an effort to solve specific coverage problems, Decibel Products is
expanding its product line of VariTilt base-station antennas with
integrated field-adjustable electrical downtilt. It has added model
855DD65VTESX to its Diversity Master style of 45-degree polarized
antennas, providing flexibility for GSM and cellular applications with
a 65-degree azimuth beamwidth antenna. To address strict visual zoning
restrictions in urban areas, the company developed 894H65VTR-SX, a
VariTilt version for the DB894 series of ultra-flat panel antennas.
This antenna provides a top-fed connector with field-selectable
downtilting up to 10 degrees. It is 2.8 inches deep and can be mounted
flat to a building or wall. The company also has released a version of
the DB874 family with the VariTilt option.

CDMA Repeater
The SelectAmp CDMA 800 repeater from Andrew is a channel-selective,
bi-directional amplifier that regenerates, amplifies and repeats RF
signals in 800MHz cellular CDMA networks. The unit provides 8W of
output power in the downlink, making it a cost-effective solution for
providing enhanced coverage or cell extension. The repeater provides
selective tuning and amplification of an individual 1.25MHz channel
while screening other channels out. Each unit can monitor active
devices within the unit and report a summary fault in the event of a
failure. For null applications, the repeater has a diversity option on
the reverse link to boost the CDMA RF signal. With this option, the
signals from the primary and diversity inputs are combined to enhance
the uplink traffic capacity and call quality.

Monitoring Software
A software package from Acterna should give carriers and infrastructure
providers a real-time view of a user’s experience. HindSitePlus
delivers a transparent view of network performance from the
subscribers’ perspective, enabling a quick response to network
problems. Analysis of air-interface data is displayed in real time in
an easy-to-use graphical interface. The software works on GSM 900 and
1800 technologies. TDMA and CDMA standards soon will be available, and
the solution will be operational on GPRS, EDGE and UMTS networks. The
software is interoperable with the company’s Caesium Air
Interface Module8501.

Internet Notification Service
ItBeeps from eRing Solutions allows mobile phone, unified messaging or
Web mail subscribers to be notified at their computers of incoming
e-mails, voice mails, faxes and SMS messages. The service sends the
message header of an event in real time to the subscriber’s
computer. The company also plans on implementing its next generation of
call-waiting service under the itBeeps architecture.

Diagnostic Solution
Tekelec has introduced a technology that enables companies to
demonstrate real-world IP functionality on systems and devices under
test. The IP Pass-through solution allows companies to demonstrate
Internet and Web-based products and services, including the subscriber
terminal, in the absence of 3G network elements. The solution is
enabled by the Tekelec Message Generator Traffic Simulator, which
allows Web browsing and other IP applications to pass through a
simulated wireless terminal and through the device under test or a
simulated network element to the Internet.

Dc-Dc Converter
Series QED from Powercube offers a wide range of efficient (more than
90%) microprocessor-controlled converters featuring single-board design
with optional integrated baseplate and heatsink and enclosed lid. QED
converters achieve their low-loss power conversion with advanced
synchronous rectification and integrated, planar magnetic technology.
The internal microprocessor enables the converters to outperform
comparable converters by maintaining consistency, accuracy and
effectiveness under any fault condition. Forty-eight-volt models
operate with inputs ranging from 36Vdc to 75Vdc, and 24V models with
inputs of 18Vdc to 36Vdc. They can handle output currents up to 30A.
Outputs range form 1.5V to 28V, which can be adjusted -20% to +10%
using the trim pin.
