CDMA Mixers
TriQuint Semiconductor features a companion pair of RFIC CDMA
downconvert mixers, the TQ5132 RFA/Mixer, designed specifically for
cellular band CDMA/AMPS receive applications, and the TQ5633 RFA/Mixer,
designed for PCS band CDMA receive applications. The mixers meet the
requirements of both IS-95 and AMPS standards. When used as a pair, the
mixers provide tri-mode operation in the 800MHz and 1.9GHz bands. Both
units incorporate on-chip switches with various operational modes: the
3-state switch on the TQ5132 selects CDMA with gain steps or AMPS mode
while the TQ5633 2-state switch selects either a CDMA high- or low-gain
mode. Both devices use internal RF port matching to 50W resulting in
low RF port VSWRs and eliminating the need for external component
matching. Input intercept points are 2.5dBm for the 800MHz band and
-0.5dBm for the 1.9GHz band. Gain levels are 15dB for the 800MHz band
and 16dB for the 1.9GHz band at maximum gain settings. Low operating
currents range from a maximum of 26.5mA at highest gain and linearity
settings to 10.3mA in the AMPS mode.

Call-Quality Solution
Radcom offers the first phase of its call-quality-management
solution, Omni-Q. It enables IP service providers to guarantee delivery
of high-quality packet telephony services by measuring end-to-end voice
and signaling quality on their packet- and circuit-switched networks.
Omni-Q is comprised of three integrated elements: QProbes, a mix of
active and passive probes; QManager, a central Unix server containing
an Oracle database; and QConsole, a Java-based console. Omni-Q conducts
quality measurements on continuously generated test and simultaneously
monitored live traffic. Key quality parameter measurements include
circuit and packet call-setup performance, signaling efficiency,
jitter, packet loss and silence suppression efficiency. User-defined,
probe-level alarms notify network management of potential voice
degradation and/or traffic problems before they affect call quality.
The service allows for the historical collection of data for trending
and network-planning purposes. This data-collection capability also
provides the information necessary to maintain differentiated
customer-service levels.

Switch Connector
Murata Electronics North America has introduced the TWD switch
connector, which serves as the primary RF connection in car kits and
other mobile applications. The switch functions as a test point by
simplifying tuning and other adjustments, and can be left in the
circuit after testing and tuning. It's part of a comprehensive system
that also includes car-kit jack mounts in the car base unit, which
stays in the car when, for example, the wireless phone is removed from
the base and taken out of the vehicle.

feature lets users receive customized information on traffic jams,
weather conditions, movie show times and horoscopes. News junkies are
able to check the latest headlines, sports scores, entertainment news
and stock-quote services. The flip-top unit features a user-selectable
private-time option that automatically turns off all alerts during
pre-selected times. Messages continue to be received during these times
and can be replied to at any time. Other features include Optimax EL
backlighting for the display and keyboard, and 128kb of memory
capacity.

Plug-in Modules
InnoMediaLogic's Basis resource module adapter and Squeez/Echo
plug-in functional modules maximize voice-channel capacity in
computer-telephony servers. The solution sets add resources to maintain
the voice-processing services required in packet voice networks without
affecting overall TDM capacity. The modules are designed for long
distance or international switching, multimedia gateways and
interactive voice-response systems. They allow for more traffic using
less bandwidth, while improving overall network performance. The
modular approach combined with the implementation of a secondary
telephony bus eliminates the need to install additional resource cards
to perform voice-processing services such as echo cancellation,
compression, decompression or tone detection.

Wireless Data Solution
WRQ's NetMotion 1.0 extends existing applications to wireless
networks without requiring customization, middleware or stack
replacement. The software gives wireless users on LANs connectivity to
corporate applications and data without changing the application
software on the wireless device or the server, and without having to
dedicate a specific network segment. It is built on standard protocols
including TCP/IP and SNMP. Its small-client software is installed on
wireless devices, while the server component resides on a Windows NT
platform attached to the network. Mobile users are able to run browser,
e-mail and file-transfer applications over secure connections while
roaming, or dial in from remote locations. The server maintains a
persistent connection with the mobile device even during periods when
the device can't be reached. Once the device reconnects to the network,
all applications resume where they left off.
