Real-Time Mapping Software
Dolphin from Berkeley Varitronics Systems (BVS) is a Windows application for real-time mapping of all BVS GPS-based wireless test instruments, including its newest 802.11 WLAN receivers. The unit tracks a drive-study path using any MapInfo-compatible map and overlays the received measurements for all of their correlating GPS positional data. Collected data includes RSSI, Ec/lo and other user-defined measurements. All functions are executed using a receiver, MapInfo street maps and laptop with an RS-232 port in real time while the user is still in the field. The software runs on any PC using Windows 95, 98, CE, 2000 or ME.

Wideband Antenna
A new wideband antenna designed for the 1.71GHz-3.6GHz band provides omnidirectional RF coverage for a range of applications including GSM 1800, PCS, UMTS and 2.4GHz. Wideband antennas are good for indoor-coverage systems because they allow system planners to combine multiple services into one antenna. The new antenna from Decibel Products is a direct response to indoor wireless coverage systems that require versatile antennas that provide maximum service while remaining physically appealing.

Operations & Maintenance Center Radio Application
Motorola’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector has introduced an operations and maintenance center-radio (OMC-R) platform that supports the circuit/packet-based switching and features of next-generation CDMA2000 1x networks. The OMC-R is based on the scaleable network computing platform from Sun Microsystems, which includes the Sun Enterprise 4500 server. The platform supports day-to-day network operations and maintenance tasks by providing event/alarm, performance, software load, configuration and security-management functions. The new OMC-R can replace multiple existing OMC-Rs, reducing the amount of equipment in the network. Additional hardware and software features help optimize system availability and monitor system performance.

Interface Kit
Narda Safety Test Solutions has introduced a system for downloading, saving and analyzing data collected in personal RF safety monitors worn by engineers, technicians and others who work in proximity to RF radiation sources. The XT Interface Kit is a complete hardware and software solution for retrieving data logs stored in Nardalert XT monitors, saving the records on PC and viewing graphed data quickly to determine RF exposure levels with respect to the monitor’s alarm settings and a specific industry or government standard. The kit comes in a durable plastic case and includes an interface module and two cables. One, a flexible, lightweight wire, connects the module to the Nardalert XT personal RF monitor; the second, a conventional computer serial cable with 9-pin connector, links the module to the PC.
