A Mobile Mason-Dixon Line

The country's highest wireless penetration isn't within the cities you'd expect it to be. According to a new study by Telephia, mobile phone ownership has hit its highest points in the South, with four of the five highest penetrated cities in Dixie. Greenville, S.C., tied St. Louis as the most densely penetrated city at 77%. Orlando, Fla., Atlanta and Raleigh, N.C., all came in at 70% or higher. In comparison, New York City scored 53%, Los Angeles 52% and Chicago 54% — all below the 58% nationwide average of the 48 largest markets. Looks like the urban centers aren't as technologically urbane as we might have thought.
