Gaming the teenybopper
Telephia might have just come up with a way for carriers to target that ever-elusive teen market: Turn them into mobile gaming addicts. Telephia's survey of teen wireless users in 35 large U.S. markets found that kids engaging in mobile gaming use nearly twice the amount of minutes per month than their non-gaming equivalents. Game-playing teens also spend significantly more on handsets and have an overall higher satisfaction rating with their service provider than non-gamers. Telephia even found that gaming youngsters are often willing to shell out more of their own pocket money — not just their parents' money — to pay for the service. The problem is only 8% of teenage wireless users currently engage in the activity, far behind apps like text messaging.
