Lucent's Microelectronics Group's next-generation digital signal processor (DSP) can process at least three times the number of phone calls as DSPs currently in use, which translates to more powerful and efficient base stations. The chip can process six GSM or CDMA phone calls at once, up from a current maximum of two, and reduces the electronics cost, size and power consumption of base stations by at least 50%. - www.lucent.com
