In this issue
This is it: the apex of the U.S. wireless season, marked by the industry’s pre-eminent event, CTIA Wireless 2005, held this year in New Orleans. (Speaking of CTIA, check out the back page of this issue for a conversation with the association’s VP of policy, Carolyn Brandon.) What you can expect to see at this year’s show is what you see covered in these pages: the rapid evolution of next-gen mobile technologies like EV-DO, the advent of convergence methods like IMS, the emergence of standards like HSDPA and the eminence of business models like the mobile virtual network operator (subject of this month’s cover story on Sky Dayton’s new thing). You’ll also see new software and hardware tools used to power, monitor, tweak and test the network (like those featured in Tim McElligott’s coverage of test equipment trends). You can also see us: Everyone pictured on this page will be there, sorting out how it will all shape the future.
