Telephony's Inside Telecom Live:
Differentiating IPTV

As telecom service providers enter the television marketplace, they are put in a precarious situation. They are charged with matching (or exceeding) the quality, service and features of cable TV, while offering consumers a compelling reason to switch. This presents a number of significant challenges and opportunities for the telcos. After selecting the infrastructure that will bring video to the home – whether FTTH, FTTN or a partnership combining satellite TV with IP terrestrial video – telcos must then decide how to make that service persuasive enough to attract subscribers and achieve scale. They have a choice to make – concentrate on being lower cost than cable, or charge more for a service that is truly differentiated and worth the upgrade. What is it that consumers care about the most, and what do telcos have to do to meet their expectations?

Join Telephony Associate News Editor Sarah Reedy and Jonathan Hurd, director at Altman Vilandrie & Company, as they explore IPTV's critical juncture. This webinar will focus on the options, challenges and choices that IPTV operators face as they compete against cable and satellite providers to become the household provider of television—as well as broadband, voice and wireless services. The role of key differentiators for the service will be explored, both in terms of what customers want and what IPTV providers can deliver.

Among the topics to be covered are:

  • How IPTV providers could make the user interface better, improve the remote control device and package the service to sell
  • Why customer service remains the killer app and how IPTV providers should adapt, starting with the installation process
  • High-definition and how service provider can leverage their IP networks to bring more HD channels with better quality
  • The new features that will add value to the TV viewing experience versus the ones consumers won't ever use
  • How service providers can profit by personalizing service based on individual customer behavior and preferences
  • The role of analytics in growing and monetizing the IPTV subscriber base
  • How IPTV providers are working with middleware companies and vendors to bring the latest and greatest features
