Bringing Intelligence to the IP Network Core

Traditionally, service provider networks have put most of their intelligence at the edge, reserving the core of the network for transport that is rapid, scalable and secure. The next generation of IP networks needs to be able to handle a wider range of services and applications – many of which are not yet identified – and treat each correctly, doing so in an efficient manner that conserves network resources.

Service providers converging their services onto IP backbones need to consider the ways in which they can add intelligence, and the steps involved in doing so, and they need to do so in advance of the demand for new services, particularly video services.
