“It is definitely causing changes,” Kelly said. “Large service providers want to be able to define a broader solution and have a single point of control to do the old architecture from a single solution. Companies that used to be competitors still are, but in many cases because of our end customer, we have to collaborate. It’s definitely a change in our industry, but we have to work through it.”

From a consumer perspective, perhaps more important than the service provider of tomorrow is the actual services it will enable. The four executives concluded the panel by offering their predictions on what services the industry can expect 10 years from now – regardless of who delivers them. These included video chat and conferencing on mobile, mobile gaming, location technologies, mobile ads, integration with the home set-top box for converged service and more business outsourcings opportunities for service providers.
