Arbor Networks today unveiled Version 5.0 of its Arbor Peakflow SP, adding new capabilities to automate the detection and mitigation of network threats as well as doubling the performance and scalability of the product, which is already deployed by 300 network operators globally.

The newest version of Arbor's Peakflow SP takes advantage of Arbor's Atlas Threat-Based Monitoring system and its Active Threat Feed-based fingerprint system and builds in automatic responses to identified threats and anomalies.  In addition, Arbor Peakflow SP now enables service providers to offer more managed security services such as managed protection from distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks.

"I see it as an update to the functionality – they already have better monitoring and protection, and Arbor continues to add more signatures from their threat detection stuff, built off Atlas," said Yankee Group Analyst David Vorhous. "The greater application visibility and real-time analysis helps service providers do threat detection and mitigation better, faster and cheaper."

In Arbor Peakflow SP Version 5, service providers also can leverage their investment in the system to monitor service characteristics such as jitter, latency and packet loss, said Rakesh Shah, director of product management for Arbor Networks.

"Service providers can gain visibility into their services while monitoring service levels and providing security," Shah said. "PeakflowSP provides reporting and traffic analysis and anomaly detection. We have now integrated our Peak Flow TMS product so that, upon detecting the threat, you can then send traffic to the TMS device, and the PeakFlow TMS device can clean the traffic and resolve the threat. Other traffic is not affected."
