At least initially, Alcatel-Lucent expects service provider customers to deploy single instances of the 8661 Directory Server per new service. However, the server and Alcatel’s overall network infrastructure direction supports the use of the server in a more virtualized environment that allows data to exist where it is today but be virtualized into a common repository that could be accessed by multiple services and applications, Alcatel-Lucent’s Cortley said.

Alcatel-Lucent’s 8661 Directory Server is generally available today and in production in several unnamed customer networks and labs.
