Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO of DreamWorks, also came on stage to show its upcoming 3D movie, Monsters v. Aliens, He said the industry is entering a revolutionary change to 3D TV. “3D represents the opportunity to reenergize audiences worldwide about the experience that can only be seen in the movie theatres,” he said. Beginning this year, all DreamWorks films will be offered in 3D.
One reason Blu-Ray won the format war was that every Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console could play them. Sony’s PS3 can now sync with its portable gaming device, the PlayStation Portable for consumers to take it on the go. President of Sony Computer Entertainment Ka Hirai also announced that Sony added 2.1 million PlayStation accounts in December. The Sony PlayStation Store video delivery service content is also portable to the PS3 and TV. Hirai announced that beginning today, MTV is partnering with Sony to deliver an initial lineup of more than 2,000 hours of programming for the video service.
“We intend to make this the total Sony experience,” Hirai said. “PlayStation is where they all intersect.” Sony will also integrate its Bravia Internet Link to deliver Internet content directly to Bravia over an IP network into several high-end Bravia models in the spring.
“No drop in the economy can change the fact that this is still one of the most innovative industries on the planet,” Stringer added, adding that a network-connected personalized experience will define it tomorrow. “If you can imagine it, we can help make it real. That is the total Sony experience.”
