TV service providers, broadcasters, video content creators and application developers are converging on Amsterdam this week for IBC 2010, arguably the top international event for the sector.

News coming out of the show is expected to reflect recent trends toward cross-platform support and the integration of over-the-top (OTT) and traditional broadcast video content.

Some of the key announcements thus far from the event:

-- Ericsson has created a Media Delivery Network solution that helps operators and broadcasters combine multi-channel video, video-on-demand and OTT video offerings over a common content distribution structure, with support for caching, storing, streaming, transcoding, content management, targeted advertising and fast channel-changing across any platform to any screen.

-- Verimatrix announced ViewRight Web, a family of portable security applications in its Video Content Authority System that provide authentication services for devices supporting the HTTP Live Streaming video standard for secure OTT video. ViewRight Web supports device clients that include set-top boxes, PCs, devices running the iPhone OS 3.0+ (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) and devices using the Android OS. The applications automatically confirgure video formats and bit rates depending on the device being used to watch video.

-- ANT has partnered with middleware developer Ocean Blue Software to create an integrated software stack for the hybrid broadcast broadband TV and connected TV markets. The solution combines ANT’s Galio Platform with Ocean Blue’s Sunrise DVB and Voyager MHEG technology.

-- Celeno Communications will be demonstrating video distribution over Wi-Fi home networking environments and also will be taking part in demonstrations showing its support for NDS’ Unified Gateway platform and Orca Interactive’s RIGHTV middleware.

-- Inlet Technologies will demonstrate enhancements to its Spinnaker video streaming appliance and its Armada utomated workflow management system, as well as its automated ad insertion and advanced support for adaptive bit-rate streaming and digital rights management.
