The Internet Innovation Alliance, a broad industry group founded last year to push the idea of a national broadband strategy, has launched a new Broadband Fact Book, a Web-based source for information on broadband that encourages users to constantly add research and other content.

The Broadband Fact Book contains information on broadband adoption rates, traffic rates, and benefits for the economy, the education sector, healthcare, energy consumption, the environment, fighting poverty and telework. It also includes facts on network infrastructure.

“Informed policy-makers make the best policy,” said Bruce Mehlman, Internet Innovation Alliance co-chair, in a prepared statement. “We have assembled the most current comprehensive list of facts and stats on broadband to aid government officials, community leaders and researchers trying to bring the power of high-speed Internet to bear on our nation's greatest challenges.”

The IIA, founded by Mehlman and Larry Irving, former head of the National Telecommunications and Information Association, also launched an Internet Innovation Ambassadors program to promote the benefits of broadband for healthcare, education, technology and the environment.

Readers can contribute information to the Broadband Fact Book, as long as it is accurate and fully sourced.
