Actiontec Electronics is making it easier for smaller telcos to customize their DSL modems and to make deployment simpler for consumers. A new Java application enables rapid preprovisioning of network settings to an Actiontec modem, along with the addition of service provider logos and up to six specific links.
By giving service providers a tool that allows them to easily put in network and even individual customer settings, the new Actiontec application will simplify the provisioning process to an easy plug-and-play for customers, said Leslie Kirchman, director of corporate marketing.
“It s a bigger priority for mid- to smaller carriers that don’t have the volume in DSL modems to ask for specific firmware for their customer base,” Kirchman said. “They can add in their logo and up to six different links and pre-populate their network settings, such as PPP username and password, VPI & VCI Settings, and the type of DSL Network they have, before they send the modem out to the customer. They can even include the customer’s name and password so all customer has to do is plug in the cable.”
The tool itself provides a one-button process for porting all information to the modem so that a process that once took up to five minutes can take less than 30 seconds, Kirchman said. “This is a time savings that also allows the customer to have a better experience. Some telcos many not have done this ine the past because of the time it takes. Now they can make it easy for the customer to connect and it gives them an opportunity to put in their brand and up to six specific sites, which can include their customer service cite or their home page.”
This Java application can be used with the Actiontec GT701D, GT724WGR and GT724R modems.
