Tatara’s platform components, such as a subscriber gateway, service manager and partner gateway, can help carriers maintain subscriber control while still integrating multiple types of services and providers into a single end-user offering.

Telus, which began launching its public Wi-Fi hot spots in early 2003 in partnership with Spotnik Mobile, announced a few months ago the intention to provide for roaming across these hot spots and its mobile data network facilities. The announcement supported ongoing work among all Canadian wireless carriers to develop cross-network standards at the request of the Canadian Wireless Telecom Association.

Those standards should be put into effect sometime next year, according to Telus. Meanwhile, Telus and Spotnik recently launched Wi-Fi access covering Vancouver International Airport in British Columbia. The companies are planning more than 450 Wi-Fi hot spots throughout Canada.
