San Diego-based WIDCOMM provides the software stacks for several kinds of Bluetooth products from partner companies such as Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Dell, Samsung and others. The company works with both Windows-based and embedded device implementations, and claimed to have 50% market share in the market for Bluetooth on personal computers.

Broadcom already offers Bluetooth semiconductors through its Blutonium line of products for several different kinds of devices. Broadcom and WIDCOMM also have worked together for more than a year, integrating the former company’s chips with the latter firm’s software, according to the companies.

The deal will be an all-stock transaction and is expected to close by June 30, Broadcom said.
