WorldCom playing games

WorldCom made a jump into the world of online gaming today, announcing it would play host to mammoth XGamer Networks online gaming portal.

Analysts have hailed online gaming as a ripe market for revenues as the legions of PC and console gamers start migrating from their own desktops to gaming servers. XGN sprang up in early 2000 to create a one-stop shop for gamers looking for information, downloads and, of course, a server to play on. Unlike other hosted services, XGN gives its clients complete control over the servers, allowing them to pre-configure and launch their own servers.

WorldCom will host 250 of XGN’s gaming servers over UUNET in three data centers located in Boston, Dallas and San Jose, Calif. --Kevin Fitchard, staff writer
