3G World Congress: Sprint PCS moves toward per-megabyte pricing

Hong Kong--

Sprint PCS said it will offer per-megabyte data pricing when it rolls out its nationwide 1X CDMA network this summer, despite a recent move from Verizon Wireless to offer a flat-rate option to enterprise users.

"In the U.S., we've successfully marketed large buckets of minutes," Bill Blessing, senior vice president of business development and strategy with Sprint PCS told the audience at the 3G World Congress in Hong Kong. "That can be applied successfully to data services." Blessing said Sprint PCS would offer big enough buckets of megabits that customers won't be afraid to exceed their allotted number. This will protect the network from abuse, he said.
