Vina will sell an unspecified amount of its eLink and Integrator IADs to Electric Lightwave, a subsidiary of Citizens Telecom that operates in rural areas of Washington, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Oregon and California. The integrated voice and data devices support up to 24 voice lines, a LAN connection and T-1 access, all scalable to small and medium-sized businesses.

Vina director of marketing Bruce Todd said the deal is Vina’s first rural carrier contract and shows the vendor has managed to overcome the dwindling of the CLEC sector. While business and data carriers were Vina’s primary business several years ago, the company has started selling to incumbents. With T-1 prices dropping, rural and small incumbent carriers are now starting to offer packaged voice and data services to small and medium-sized businesses.

“We believe this is just the first of several rural carrier relationships we’ll develop in the near future,” Todd said.
