Verizon Wireless scores spectrum in South Carolina

On the heels of backing out of the NextWave settlement talks, Verizon Wireless recently decided to buy wireless licenses in South Carolina from Carolina PCS I Limited Partnership and its subsidiaries.

As part of the acquisition, Verizon Wireless gained 10 MHz of licenses to serve 3.4 million people in South Carolina cities including Anderson, Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, Greenwood, Myrtle Beach, Orangeburg and Sumter.

The carrier plans to use the licenses to handle future demand for wireless voice and data services as well as to expand coverage in areas such as Myrtle Beach. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
