Verizon said customers can expect average data transmission speeds between 40 and 60 kb/s with bursts up to 144 kb/s.

“Some of our competitors have made quick grabs for headlines as they trickle out a few markets with their initial data services,” said John Stratton, vice president and chief marketing officer of Verizon. “Others offer traveling vans with displays of services they hope to offer in the future.”

In addition to the flat-rate pricing plan, Verizon is offering additional time-based plans that allow customers to use up either data or voice minutes and megabit pricing plans.
