Verizon, Lucent to Launch 1XEV-DO Trial

Orlando, Fla.--Washington D.C. will be the site of Verizon Wireless' 1XEV-DO network trial, in which Lucent Technologies will supply the equipment. The trial will provide select business customers with secure mobile access to corporate applications such as e-mail and intranets at data transmission speeds of up to 2 Mb/s.

Several devices will be used to test the 1XEV-DO network, including wireless PC cards and embedded modules from AirPrime and Sierra Wireless, as well as Compaq 1XEV-DO enabled laptops.

For its part, Lucent will upgrade its Flexent CDMA base stations with channel cards and software. It also will supply its Flexent Mobility Server to provide an open IP interface to the data network.
