New Jersey is the eighth state in which Verizon is authorized to provide long-distance service. The others are New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Maine and Massachusetts. The carrier now provides long-distance service in 44 states and is authorized to provide interLATA service to 80% of its footprint.

It is proceeding with applications for Delaware and New Hampshire, and plans to file applications with the FCC for Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C., by the end of the year.

Verizon is offering nine service levels to residential customers and six levels to business customers. Large business, government and education customers are able to choose from two plans. In addition, residential and business customers can select several bundled packages, and enterprise customers can customize their service with plans that can include private line (at speeds ranging from DS-0 through OC-48), asynchronous transfer mode (at speeds ranging from DS-1 through OC-12) and frame relay services.
