Verizon first to deploy Lucent LambdaXtreme
Verizon Communications will become the first customer to deploy Lucent Technologies’ LambdaXtreme Transport ultralong-haul dense wavelength-division multiplexer, Lucent said. The gear includes reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing capabilities found in other vendors’ long-haul gear. Deployment will begin this summer, making Verizon the only American service provider with a nationwide network capable of transmitting at both 10-Gb/s and 40-Gb/s, Lucent said. The vendor will not quantify the value of the deal.
