The SIP-based SiPEAK Conference Broker, which can support of 20,000 concurrent users, is being sold as a carrier-hosted application that lets telcos provide voice conferencing capabilities for significantly less cost. The application, the first from the software vendor, is a way for the SIP to be slipped into carrier networks. In the Ubiquity application, SIP is used only to communicate between the application server and a media server, which is being provided by SnowShore Networks.
The move also gives Ubiquity a concrete example of how its software can be used, said Steve Gleave, chief marketing officer.
“We believe we have to stimulate the market somewhat,” he said. “Getting SIP adopted that way is much easier.”
From the user perspective, SiPEAK Conference Board can be used to set up conference on virtually any device with an IP connection. Management of the session is handled via a browser-based interface.
In the first version of the product, users only connect with audio. Future releases will include data collaboration.
