Three in one
AGC merged with NGS, which joined CAT and CED to form ERG. Got that? It may sound like acronym soup, but it's a move designed to create one big happy family ready to offer a portfolio of manufacturing, distribution, and services for generator sets and outdoor equipment cabinets.

The merger with National Generator Service in June transformed American Generator Co. into the third business unit-the services arm-of newly formed ERG Resources. ERG's other two units include Certified Advanced Technologies (CAT), which designs, engineers and assembles power telecom equipment such as demarcation cabinets, outdoor equipment cabinets for microwave; and Certified Electrical Distributors (CED), which distributes generator sets and equipment.
"It's the three-legged stool routine," said Jeff Stangler, vice president of marketing for ERG. "The units are three aspects of our company." ERG was introduced in April as the new moniker for the company, which lacked a "seat of the stool," Stangler added.
Under AGC's new partnership with ERG, the company garners new footprints in Florida, Georgia and Alabama, adding to NGS's customer services in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Atlanta. In addition to operating a network of independent service dealers across the U.S., AGC offers turnkey installations, warranty, preventive and 24/7 maintenance.
"Now, [we] effectively have service coverage from an area in Richmond, Va., all the way to Atlanta," said AGC President Michael Nelson.
AGC's headquarters will remain in Orlando, according to Nelson, who said there are no plans to consolidate ERG's three business units.
"Each operation is kept separate," Nelson said. Although there won't be any large-scale layoffs as a result of the merger, "there has been some consolidation in administrative and management units," he said.
AGC, CAT and CED are considered individual profit centers and will continue to stand-alone while working very closely with each other, Stangler added.
