Telcordia ups focus on cable, wireless; names Vega to run unit
Telcordia Technologies has intensified its focus on emerging cable and wireless businesses by establishing a new business unit, Mobility, Cable and Emerging Markets. The company also named veteran Lucent executive Terry Vega as its president.

“I’m to try to create solutions and businesses in areas where Telcordia hasn’t had a primary focus in the past,” Vega said, adding that “we’re absolutely interested and are going to be strongly focused on wireless and cable” and the emerging markets part of the title would “indicate that we might do things more broadly.”
The unit has a very specific roadmap in front of it: “understand how, in our domain, which is operations and services software how we can create solutions that will be effective in solving customers’ key business driver issues in those market spaces and create growth businesses for Telcordia doing that.”
Telcordia already has a cable presence as a supplier to operators running circuit switched telephony networks. That focus will morph to more IP-based offerings following a cable industry that is quickly moving in that direction, she said. As such, there will be more softswitch focus at Telcordia.
Vega, who spent more than 25 years ago Lucent, was a victim of “structural changes” that impacted her position as senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “I chose to make a move at that point,” she said.
In distance, the move wasn’t that far, just down the road to Northern New Jersey neighbor Telcordia because “I’ve been convinced that increasingly the space of software and systems to enable, manage and monitor network services is more and more important … and Telcordia has a very unique set of capabilities in that space,” she said. “I just found that to be a compelling reason to join.”
