Telcordia puts skill in service providers’ hands
LAS VEGAS -- Delivering on its two-year-old promise to develop more open solutions for its Integrated Operations Infrastructure, Telcordia Technologies today announced that it has developed an adapter toolkit that gives service providers and other vendors and system integrators the ability to build their own interfaces to various network elements.

Available in February 2003, the Java-based toolkit lets users model different network elements and analyze the performance of a new interface. Telcordia will provide guidelines that help create the equivalent of a requirements document as well as a network element simulator.
“We have given customers all the ability that we have plus more at Telcordia to build adapters,” said Larry Liodice, director of integrated software engineering at Telcordia. “We didn’t hold back or constrain in anyway what the customer can do.”
The network element simulator will have a capture playback feature that allows users to test their adapters in live networks. “We also capture an element’s interactions so that in the future if that network element is unavailable, you have a simulation of it which you can test against,” Liodice said.
Programmers can use the toolkit to modify adapters that already exist and supports configuration management, fault management and with its volume test tools supports performance testing as well.
“It lets users not have to depend on Telcordia for introducing new network elements into their solutions,” Liodice said.
