Tekelec integrates its Sentinel, Eagle products
Aiming to gain a competitive advantage in the signaling and diagnostics space and to provide an integrated solution to operators, Tekelec today announced that it is incorporating its Eagle 5 signaling application system, a network signaling platform, and its Sentinel surveillance and diagnostic system onto a single platform.

The combined platform supplies signaling across IP, SS7 and ATM networks and equips operators with a troubleshooting and monitoring platform.
“The goal here is to create an overall platform that provides all of the signaling applications, all of the service applications, that a network operator needs in one well-integrated seamless package,” said Ron Garrett, director of product marketing at Tekelec.
The integrated system provides benefits such as the elimination of cable and patch panels and improves the configuration of updates, said Kim Parker, product manager for Sentinel.
“[With this product], because you have the information internal to the Eagle, you can pass that information through the integrated product over to the monitoring system—over to Sentinel—and it can automatically configure those links and the changes that occur on the Eagle,” Parker said.
Another benefit is that the integrated system operates on a carrier-grade platform, she added.
The combined offering will be generally available by December. A beta will be run of the integrated product in October. Operators will be able to purchase the Eagle 5 SAS platform or upgrade their current Eagle systems and add Sentinel as a component, Parker said.
