TCS brings financial data to the BlackBerry

The marketStream service provides real-time data from more than 30 exchanges around the world and includes pricing, volume, exchange rates, futures, commodities and fixed income prices. The key to the application is that it provides real-time information without any user intervention. However, users have the capability to set numerous alerts.

“We had very good success in Europe with a pager-type device, but that was somewhat limiting,” said Timothy Lorello, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of TCS.

Porting the application to a BlackBerry also lets the company open it up to the U.S. market because data is transmitted over a GPRS network. Data is provided by Comstock and scrolls continuously to any Java-enable device, though the company is focusing initially on the BlackBerry in part because of the typical demographic of the device’s users.
