By fully supporting Web services protocols for voice applications, including WSDL, XML, VXML and SOAP, Sylantro helps services providers access a growing base of standard development tools and software industry expertise to create voice services that blend capabilities from multiple vendors and applications.

“The idea is to provide application integration and application development in a much faster way than was possible before,” said Laura Thompson, Sylantro’s marketing vice president”

The company will be demonstrating its new capabilities at the fall Voice on the Net [VON] Show this week in Atlanta.

“We can take our telephony-oriented applications and integrate them nicely with other kinds of applications,” Thomson said. “You can run these functions from the telephone, from a portal, from Microsoft Outlook.”

Sylantro demonstrated its capabilities to voice-enable functions using BeVocal’s open platform, Thompson said. While BeVocal is predominantly a consumer-oriented service, it does not preclude moving into Sylantro’s commercially focused space, said Thompson.

“It’s actually a nice twist on how to use these applications in many different environments,” she said. “There’s no reason it can’t be a valuable tool in a business environment.”

The upshot of the VON demonstration, she said, is that Sylantro is “bringing some new software techniques to the telecom realm. We believe that’s where the future is headed and we’re trying to help show people what can be done here.”

Additionally, Sylantro announced that IP-based voice applications service provider BroadVOX is deploying its applications switch as its platform for nationwide delivery of hosted communications services.

BroadVOX has facilities in 26 major metropolitan areas and will begin using the Sylantro gear in New York, Cleveland and Atlanta, Thompson said.

“They’re a Cisco-powered [long distance] network,” she said. “This was a good opportunity for them to monetize that investment even further and add enhanced services.”
