Sycamore gets GIG-BE boost

Sycamore Networks' CEO Daniel Smith attributed the optical switching vendor’s nearly 40% increase in fiscal third-quarter revenue to initial purchases of the GIG-BE project, the U.S. government defense project for which the company won a nine-figure contract last fall. Sycamore reported fiscal third-quarter revenues of $14.7 million, up from both $6.9 million in the previous quarter and $10.6 million in the year-ago quarter. Analysts blamed delays in the GIG-BE equipment procurement process for the company’s disappointing earnings report in February, which included a 19% sequential revenue decline and a 36% revenue drop year-over-year.
